Kindergarten - Off to the Sea Caverns, Beach Day is January 29, 30
Grade 1 - Gr. 1 building was very successful
Grade 2 - part way through safety, research and CATs, trying to have healthy lunches with the grade twos
Grade 3 - Finishing up the CAT tests, skating, little ones came on the skating, Rubi Star - rubrics, February 21/22 - Building bridges,
Grade 4 - February 1 - First Nations Day - mixing and mingling, ESON - Science building kit, Tech PLC - Kelli, working on legends, using the words aboriginals and First Nations, VC - Franklin Expedition -
Music - Choir has started - Day 2, Recorder Club - Day 1, still would like feedback from staff - Ali, Victoria, Lindsay, Linda, Steph, March 18 - Choral Celebration -Oasis

Protocol - Visitors to the School - Please let administration/office staff know in advance of their visit. Division Office is asking to be informed when politicians are visiting the schoools and what the purpose the visit has. Thanks!

  • very little time is being spent on Dreambox
  • Is this resource valued? What is the impact on the learning?
  • Impression - that it's less used at home
  • Promote the use of this at P/T interviews
  • Decision for whether or not we will continue with Dreambox for 2013-2014 will be made in the spring.

Yearbook 2013-1014
  • Donnalea - Key contact
  • Plans are up and running.

  • Add your photos if you would like them to be on the TV in the front display office.
  • Too many is 30 /month; 5/month is just right!

Open Houses
- Kindergarten Open House - Wednesday, February 20th 6:00-7:30
- Millgrove Celebration of Learning - Thursday, April 4th - 6:30 -- 8:00 (original date planned) - Is it too close to spring break?
- Discuss with grade possible alternative dates.

  • Library Grant - every 5 years update the reference materials, encyclopedias - Discovery, digital resources as well, dictionary, atlas,
  • needs - atlases for students, class set of rhyming dictionaries, thesaurus - 1 clas set ,

School Emergency Response
  • Lanyards - breakaways have been ordered; lanyards will be non-decriptive so it will be important for staff to keep close tabs on their keys.
  • Planned Lock Down - Go through the steps on sheet provided by Heather- January 28 @ 1:30
  • CHANGE - Where are you? (cards) - Please do not leave outside your door but as you leave have the sign close to your entrance so that if staff opens your loced door, they will learn of your whereabouts. Continue with informing the office if you are doing something outside your regular timetable.

  • Teachers - If you have a student who will require an EA to be in the water with them, please discuss with your EA and child's parents. This will be discussed further at the EA meeting February 1st.

Spellathon Coming!
This is School Council's only fundraiser so all staff need to support it.
  • March 1 - Lists due to Donnalea/Toresa
  • March 18th - Kick Off and information packages to go home
  • March 21 - CAVE Assembly - Kick Off and Hype
  • April 8 - Spelling Tests due
  • April 26th CAVE Asembly - Prize announcement & distribution

EA Liaison - Elaine Drynan/Aleigha Kravontka have agreed to act as our EA liaison for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year
  • EA Meeting - Febraury 1st - 12:45 - 1:30 - Teachers- please adjust your plans to allow for the EAs to meet.

Jump Rope for Heart- a most responsible person needed to head up this event. Please let Efi know if you are interested.
- May 6th - Kick Off date planned for this year.
Counting of money - teacher initiated activities - staff does the counting; school council/foundation activities - school council will count


Millgrove Facility
  • The board has requested from AB governement 10 new portables and 2 would come to Millgrove. March 7th - Budget & annoucements coming
  • Class changes for 2013-2014 - We are in the early stages still; no new announcements have been made.
  • Art Room - renovations just about complete; explore possibilites for using this space as a break out area for student learnig, laptops will be here as well as a white board, projection board, and flat screened TV.

Report Card- sharing and feedback will happen on January PD Day.

Next meeting - February 12 @ 6:30
School council will be involved with a COSC workshop - Creating Effective School Councils
Grade 3 team presentation will be rescheduled.

Technology
  • SMART Table - being repaired. Thanks for your patience!
  • T61s will be retired not fixed
  • iPads - Sharon will be meeting with teachers individually to have all iPads ready to go for PD Day
  • iPad Covers - will be ordered for all iPads.
  • Total cost for new iPads - $12000
